Sunshine State Junk Removal & Dumpster Rental — Southwest Ranches

Lauderdale Lakes homes and what they mean for a demo job

Lauderdale Lakes incorporated on June 22, 1961, when roughly 300 people lived on what was mostly farm and grazing land. Through the 1960s and 1970s it grew into neighborhoods set around lakes, and it first drew seasonal residents as a retirement destination. Today it covers about 3.64 square miles, almost all land, centered on the crossing of State Road 7/U.S. 441 and Oakland Park Boulevard.

The 2020 census counted 15,753 housing units in the city, about 18% of them vacant at the time of the count.

General guidance

Homes of that era often still have original or once-updated kitchens and bathrooms, and in general those are the rooms people tear out first. Expect layers: newer tile laid over older tile, cabinets built in place, and fixtures that come out in pieces.

In general, a unit that has sat empty or been held for decades needs a cleanout before demolition can start, and handling the leftover belongings and the tear-out in one visit saves a trip. On a lot that backs onto water, debris usually has to travel through a side yard or the house, which adds labor.

We serve homes throughout Lauderdale Lakes, on both sides of State Road 7 and along Oakland Park Boulevard, and the city is served from our Southwest Ranches location. We also cover bordering Tamarac, Lauderhill, Oakland Park and Fort Lauderdale.

FAQ

Demolition in Lauderdale Lakes: common questions

My Lauderdale Lakes home dates from the 1960s or 1970s. What should I expect from a kitchen tear-out?

Usually more layers than you would guess: tile over tile, built-in cabinets and older fixtures. Photos of the floors, the countertops and, if you can, the inside of a cabinet help us quote the labor accurately.

Can you clear out a vacant unit and then demo it?

Yes. We can remove furniture and leftover belongings first and then do the interior demolition, hauling both away. Send photos of each room and tell us whether the unit is in a multi-unit building.

Does Lauderdale Lakes require a permit for my project?

Check with the Building Division under the city's Development Services. The owner, or the owner's contractor, obtains any permit; we start once the work is cleared.

Do you serve the neighborhoods around the lakes?

Yes, all of Lauderdale Lakes. If your backyard faces the water, mention it, since that changes how debris gets from the work area to the trailer.

Can you remove an old concrete patio?

Yes. Patio and deck removal covers breaking up the slab and hauling it off. Clean concrete can be kept separate as clean fill, which in general makes disposal simpler.
