How it works

How a shed demolition job runs

  1. Step 1

    Photos

Text photos of the shed, inside and out, plus the base it sits on and the path to it.

  2. Step 2

    Quote

We confirm whether the base comes out too and what you need to clear first.

  3. Step 3

    Tear-down

The shed comes down piece by piece, keeping fences, plants and the yard around it safe.

  4. Step 4

    Haul-off and cleanup

Debris is hauled away and the area is picked up, including nails and screws.

Should you tear a shed down or haul it away whole?

Most sheds get torn down on site. Taking the shed apart lets it go out through a side gate and into a trailer, and it's the only option for sheds that are rotted, built on a slab or too big to move in one piece.

Hauling a shed away whole only works in specific cases: a small, solid prefab shed with clear, wide access to the street. If you think yours might qualify, send photos of the shed and the path to it and we'll tell you which approach fits.

Either way, the result you're after is the same: an empty, clean spot in the yard. Tell us what you plan to put there next — a new shed, a patio, sod — so we know whether the base needs to come out as well.

If the shed is full, the contents can be cleared at the same visit as a junk removal job, so you are not emptying it yourself first. Anything you want to keep, like tools or lawn equipment, can be set aside before tear-down starts.

What affects the scope of a shed demolition?

  • Size and material. A small resin shed comes apart quickly; a large wood shed with a shingled roof takes more time and produces more debris.
  • The base. A shed on blocks or a wood floor is simpler than one on a poured slab or pavers. Concrete is heavy and takes more work to break and remove.
  • What's inside. An empty shed is faster. If it's full, the contents can be removed as junk removal at the same time — tell us when you send photos.
  • Access. A clear path from the shed to the driveway or street makes loading faster than a narrow side yard or a locked gate.
  • Electrical. If the shed has power, it has to be disconnected by the appropriate party before demolition.

Paint, chemicals, fuel, propane tanks and pool chemicals are common in sheds and aren't accepted. Set them aside before the job, or ask us what to do with them.

Dumpster sizes

Trailer sizes that fit this debris

Most backyard sheds break down to a modest pile of wood, metal or plastic, which fits a 15 or 18 yard trailer. A concrete slab under the shed is much heavier: each rental includes 1 ton, and weight over that is $120 per ton.

FAQ

Shed Demolition questions

Do you remove the concrete slab under a shed?

Yes, if you want it gone. Tell us when you send photos and the slab or pavers will be included in the quote. Clean concrete can often be kept separate as clean fill.

Do I have to empty the shed first?

It helps, but you don't have to. Contents can be removed as junk removal at the same time. Paint, chemicals, fuel and propane can't be taken, so set those aside.

Do I need a permit to tear down a shed?

It depends on your city, so check with your city's building department before work starts. Getting any required permit is the property owner's responsibility.

What size dump trailer do I need to tear down a shed myself?

Most backyard sheds fit in the 15 yard ($350) or 18 yard ($395) trailer. If you're also breaking up a concrete slab, weight matters more than space: each rental includes 1 ton and $120 per ton over that.
